Do the metric patterns supply indications on the composition of the epic text? Following the work of G. E. Duckworth on the song IV of the Aeneid, the study of these patterns revealsactually the attention carried by the poet to the microstructural composition ratherthan macrostructural thanks to the use of opposite, inverse or identical patterns, even particular as the spondaic hexameter.

Les schémas métriques fournissent-ils des indications sur la composition du texte épique? À la suite du travail de G.E. Duckworth sur le chant IV de l'Énéide, l'étude de ces schémas révèle de fait l'attention portée par le poète à la composition micro-structu-relle plutôt que macro-structurelle grâce à l'utilisation de schémas opposés ou inverses, voire particuliers comme l'hexamètre spondaïque.
