Intérêt de la métabolomique lors de rhabdomyolyse récurrente induite par l'exercice chez le Trotteur Français : nouveaux biomarqueurs sanguins et investigation d'un aliment complémentaire

Abstract : Recurrent exertional rhabdomyolysis (RER) is the second non-locomotor cause of poor-performance most frequently detected in racing Standardbred horses. To date, the diagnosis of RER is insufficiently sensitive and remains belated. Besides, there is no medical therapy allowed in the context of official racing competitions. Non-targeted analytical approaches, i. E. Proteomics or metabolomics, are promising for the definition of diagnosis profiles but remains rarely used in equine practice. This research project aimed to define systemic biomarker profiles for the diagnosis of RER in horses in training, and to investigate the impact of a supplementary feeding on their physiological response to exercise. In order to fulfill these purposes, the strategy consisted in developing a non-targeted analysis approach by metabolomics. This research project allowed developing tools and analytical resources for the investigation of equine metabolome. We were able to define specific metabolomic profiles of response to exercise for horses with history of RER. Whenever further studies confirm the relevance of these profiles in a next future, a original diagnostic test of RER might then be proposed to the equine industry. The impact of a supplementary feed on the response to exercise of Standardbred horses with history of RER was also objectified through the developed procedure. Identification of supplementation biomarkers will allows evaluating its real impact, and might help proposing to trainers new improvements for managing equine athletes with RER.
