L'automobilité périurbaine en France : une façon d'habiter

Abstract : Automobility, a term with increasing use, is often understood as synonymous with automobile mobility. We sought to clarify its definition. That is to say, to verify the idea that the automobile "renders service" to its driver beyond the means of locomotion that it is, by acting on the organization of its daily life. We worked within the peri-urban area because it encompasses the best sites observations of automobile-related behaviors. Looking at the relationship between automobile and peri-urbanization, we found that, for each new inhabitant, the installation in the peri-urban area carries a housing project that mobilizes a larger spatial portion than when considering the installation as a residential project. This housing project is based on the automobile, the only one to reach the various places that make it up. Thus, the definition of automobility derives from the explanatory factors of the link between automobile and habitat.
