Soot size determination in a swirl stratified premixed ethylene-air flame by a sampling probe and elastic light scattering

Abstract : The present work is focused on size measurement of soot particles which are produced in a turbulent, stratified (high spatial equivalence ratio gradient), swirled (rotating flow) premixed ethylene-air flame representative of aeronautic conditions. Soot particle size measurements are performed using an ex-situ sampling technique coupled with a Scanning Mobility Particle Sizer (SMPS). The angle dependence of elastic light scattering from soot was also used as a mean for determining particle size distributions. This study shows a comparison of soot size distributions that were obtained by sampling and optical techniques.
