This proceedings issue of Thin Solid Films comprises selected papers from the Symposium “Frontiers of multifunctional oxides” of the E-MRS conference held in Strasbourg May 31–June 4, 2010. The objective of this symposium was to bring together experimentalists and theorists in material science, chemistry, and physics to share their recent results, identify critical problems and provide promising solutions for tailoring physical properties of materials in oxide films, and in particular at the interfaces of superlattices.
