De l’usage du rococo dans la critique littéraire dix-huitièmiste

Abstract : Whether referred to as a taste, style, trend or fashion, rococo has resurfaced in the context of literary analysis since the 1960s and even more markedly since 2000. However nebulous, rococo is a historiographical category deriving from the decorative arts and fine arts which has been taken up by literary critics – such a transfer has major theoretical implications for the study of the first half of the eighteenth century. In view of the multiplicity of attempts to circumscribe as well as maximise the uses of rococo, it is important to provide a larger picture in order to grasp its conceptual framework and assess its relevance for scholars of the eighteenth century.
