Place de l’aide à domicile dans le réseau de sociabilité de personnes vieillissantes en situation de vulnérabilité

Abstract : This paper examines the results of an exploratory research conducted by semi-structured interviews with elderly frail people living at home and receiving help from care workers in carrying out the tasks of everyday life. They were questioned on their perception of their social relationships, specifically about those which link them to their home help(s) as well as on the support they believe they receive from those in their close circle. Based on the approach of personal networks, which enables us to reconstruct all the relationships of an individual as they perceive them, and of social support, this research presents the sociability of the elderly characterized in particular by physical limitations but also by the development of strategies. The results reveal diverse relational configurations of the elderly although they are mainly composed of close family, mainly children. Some of the relational universes include home support, which is considered a strong link. By examining individual cases the object of this study is to understand the conditions that facilitate the inclusion of a care worker in the personal network.
