A Successful Cross-Cultural Manager

Helena Karjalainen

Abstract

This case study presents international cross-cultural managers working in two multinational companies. The aim of the case study is to provide an example of multicultural team management from the perspective of cross-cultural managers and to understand their role in multicultural team management. The topic will focus on the importance and need for competent cross-cultural managers. In today's multinational organizations, a majority of employees are bicultural, which can be of tremendous use to managers in their everyday tasks. It is therefore crucial to have informed managers leading the teams and, above all, to understand teams coming from diverse backgrounds. The case is based on an empirical study which was organised involving group interviews with 10 cross-cultural managers.
