LA VILLE PORTUAIRE EUROPÉENNE MOYENNE : UN TERRITOIRE PARTICULIER ?

Abstract : Since of the transformation of international trade and the revolution of containerization, the port has moved spatially away from the city. If in the big port cities there is a gradually functionnal disconnection between the city and its port, what is the situation in the medium port city ? Firstly, we propose a definition and a typology of the medium port city in Europe. Secondly, the words analysis of more twenty interviews conducted with the main stakeholders in six european ports (Le Havre, Dunkerque, Nantes-Saint-Nazaire, Klaipeda, Kotka-Hamina and Gdynia) has made it possible to perform a functional characterization of the european medium-sized port city in a territorial framework (governance).
