Résumé

Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) are a group of well known pollutants due to their carcinogenic and mutagenic activity. They are degraded by the microorganisms present in soils [1] and the interest in the analysis of the metabolites produced has increased in the last years. The present work is focused in the development of two analytical methodologies for some of the monohydroxylated PAHs metabolites (hydroxy-PAHs), such as 2-naphthol, 2-hydroxyfluorene, 9-phenanthrol and 1-hydroxypyrene, after their microwave assisted extraction (MAE) from soils. On one hand, the obtained extracts containing the hydroxy-PAHs were purified by molecularly imprinted polymers (MIP) which showed an effective selectivity for the hydroxylated derivatives studied (and not for native PAHs), which allowed us to easily identify and quantify them by HPLC with fluorescence detection. The absence of soil matrix interferences permitted to obtain low detection limits (1.0·10-4-3.7·10-4 mg·L-1) and quantification limits (3.3·10-4-12.2·10-4 mg·L-1), which could be improved using a preliminary solvent evaporation step. On the other hand, in the second method, the sample extract was concentrated by evaporation, then silylated and analyzed by GC/MS. This last method showed a more similar sensitivity for all hydroxy-PAHs and, although working with selective detection mode, we observed several peaks due to matrix interferences. Nevertheless, the analysis of monohydroxylated derivatives was performed satisfactorily. A comparison of the advantages and disadvantages of both methods are presented in the current work. Acknowledgement: we thank Polyintell company (Val de Reuil, France) for their practical advice with the MIPs.
