Un dépôt mobilier du XIXe s. en marge de l’espace funéraire dans l’église Saint-Martin de Verneuil-sur-Seine

The archaeological evaluation of St. Martin’s Church in Verneuil-sur-Seine (Ile-de-France, Yvelines) has delivered a surprising hoard of small finds from the first half of the nineteenth century. A widening in the center of the choir contained fifty different artifacts arranged in and around a ceramic jug closed up with a tile engraved 1838. This date was also engraved on a rose plaster. Most of the artifacts from the jug are out from domestic, daily and social activities. However, a lack of consistency between these objects is obvious. Other containers found around the jug could be of ceremonial nature (wine consumption). This hoard might result from the careful staging of selected objects from the churchyard and preserved in sacred space.
