La beauté du corps masculin dans le monde romain : état de la recherche récente et pistes de réflexion

Abstract : The Beauty of the Male Body in the Roman World: Recent Studies and New Questions. Numerous studies have been devoted to masculinity in the Roman world over the past twenty years that raise questions about the nature of male beauty. In Latin texts several types of beauty appear: the beauty of the honorable Roman citizen, the seduction of the pueri delicati, and the perfect beauty of heroes in epic fiction. These distinctions refer to an opposition between the real beauty of the living body and ideal beauty. Defining ideal beauty involves questions on the human body, especially in medical texts, and on the art that represents it.
