« Place et rôle de la circulation non marchande en milieu rural au nord du Viêt Nam : un élément central de la société ?

Abstract : This paper deals with the place and role of non-commercial flows of goods and services in rural areas of Northern Vietnam. The scientific research on this subject usually argues that in industrial societies the development of the state, salaried employment and the market economy have relegated non-commercial flows to a secondary or residual position in the social and economic fabric of society. Nonetheless, the Vietnamese case shows that, since the opening of the market economy, non-commercial flows are intense and prevalent, the involved amounts are significant, and the social and economic functions of the system are important. These elements combine to confirm that non-commercial flows are pivotal to the organization of local societies.
