Lean expansion to supply chain actors : towards more performance?
L’élargissement du lean aux acteurs de la supply chain : vers plus de performance ?

The objective of this research is to understand whether the extension of lean implementation to the supply chain actors would have an impact on performance. It conceptualises the lean supply chain as a set of tools mobilised within the company, but also as practices used to optimise interactions with suppliers and customers. More specifically, it is interested in the impact of the combination of internal and external lean on two fundamental indicators of operational performance: scrap and batch sizes. A sample of 171 French production sites was created. The results show, in terms of the operational performance, the existence of a statistically significant difference between the companies having opted for the extended lean and the other companies of the sample. This study highlights the additive effect of internal lean and external lean on operational performance.
L’objectif de cette recherche est de comprendre si l’extension de la mise en place du lean aux acteurs de la supply chain aura un impact sur la performance. Elle conceptualise le lean supply chain comme étant un ensemble d’outils mobilisés à l’intérieur de l’entreprise mais également de pratiques utilisées pour optimiser les interactions avec ses fournisseurs et ses clients. Plus spécifiquement, elle s’intéresse à l’impact de la combinaison des lean interne et externe sur deux indicateurs fondamentaux de la performance opérationnelle : les rebuts et les tailles de lots. Un échantillon de 171 sites de production français a été constitué. Les résultats montrent, sur la performance opérationnelle, l’existence d’une différence statistiquement significative entre les entreprises ayant opté pour le lean étendu et les autres entreprises de l’échantillon. Cette étude souligne l’effet additif du lean interne et du lean externe sur la performance opérationnelle.
