Ebauche d'une formalisation des prépositions In, On et At

Abstract : The prepositions in, on and at are usually dealt with in terms of spatiality and are even often labelled “spatial” or “place” prepositions. Consequently, their other values are generally treated as metaphorical, secondary meanings. The aim of this paper is to show that, instead of considering the spatial interpretation as primary and of resorting to the ill-defined concept of metaphor to account for the other values, another possible solution would be to devise a more abstract schematic form, within a metalinguistic system of representation - in the present case, the “Théorie des Opérations Enonciatives” - from which each and every value of the preposition under investigation could be generated, including the spatial value.
