"Do so" : une simple forme complexe ?

Abstract : This paper deals with the combination of the marker so and the relator do, whether considered as an auxiliary or a verb. This combination is problematical, from the point of view both of the nature of its constituents and of that of the combination as a whole. These problems are mainly due to the limits of the conceptual tools employed and can in large part be resolved in a unitary fashion by resorting to a system of metalinguistic representation that takes into account the subjective structuration of the predicative relation anaphorically referred to and its location relative to an enunciative space.
