Les compétences linguistiques des comédiens professionnels au XVIIe siècle

Abstract : In French seventeenth-century drama, the model of the good actor, developed in Paris and related to the theories of correct French, is one who bears no trace of a provincial accent. The Gascon, Swiss or Norman accent is therefore a comic one, crafted by the actor, and less based on native linguistic competence than on one acquired during his travels and above all through the exercise of his art.
