Le rôle de l’interface maritime-terrestre dans les échanges interrégionaux : Infrastructures intermodales et attractivité portuaire en Europe vers une perspective comparative avec les ports maritimes de l’Asie du Nord-Est

Abstract : In this paper some 73 European ports are compared in the context of their intermodal facilities. Intermodal facilities as roads, railways, inland waterways and even airports which linked seaports with various modal networks are commonly considered as advantages to increase the ports appeal. Even though, there are not frameworks able to measure the real impact of ports intermodal (inter)connections on their traffic evolutions. Otherwise, intermodal facilities require expensive infrastructures that might be profitless. Certainly port traffic evolutions depend of many factors as economic health, shippers commercial strategies, ports geographical location and others, but the contribution of intermodal networks interconnections have a huge importance in the ports traffic attractiveness. This paper contribute to understand the relation between modal interconnections facilities and ports appeal, as well as to classify the European seaports in function of their relative rank of modal interconnections use and development. The criteria selected to measure the port’s modal networks interconnections are basic, concrete and allow to establish an appropriate comparison into ports on an homogeneous basis. A systematic analysis is introduced in this study to identifying 73 European ports based on the technique of principal componant analysis in terms of their physically modal interconnections and their traffic data which allow to clarify these influence and to compare it between selected European ports.
