Entre réticence et responsabilité : promesses et contrats de lectures chez Keats

Abstract : Abstract This paper examines how John Keats's commitment breaks away from historical events and takes the form of aesthetic choices as part of a "writing promise", both a personal vow and a contract for the reader. While a strong awareness of his status as a poet, of his mission and of his potential position in literary history strengthens Keats's literary commitment, his poetical voice often raises questions about the texts' ethical value and their reception, especially who they should address and how this singular poetical voice may sound universal. Keywords John Keats, responsibility, commitment, “writing contract”, relation to the reader
