Abstract : This paper reconstructs the collection of inscriptions copied in Iberia by Carolus Clusius, during his travels through Spain and Portugal in 1564-1565. Besides the few autograph documents that survived the dismantling of his collection by Christophorus Saxius, Smetius’s printed corpus and the indications given by Saxius himself provide indirect evidence of it. Moreover, they attest to Clusius’s relationship with the Spanish and Dutch men of letters of his time.
