La catalyse profane : une piste pour réussir l'interdisciplinarité et la transdisciplinarité ?

Abstract : Noting that the popularization process was initiated by researchers and not at the demand of the people, the science’s anthropologist Baudouin Jurdant had the idea to explore what the effects of science popularization might be for researchers themselves. He states that by developing new ways to describe the studies he has undertaken in order to share it with an uninitiated public, a researcher - or, more generally a “knowing man” – can gain a “deeper and more comprehensive” vision of his own area of expertise. In this article, I will go a little further on the question of the “effects” of popularization and thus define the conditions that brought them about. I will then try to demonstrate that the mechanisms involved in “lay catalysis”, in which the effects of popularization are one of the outstanding features, represent at the same time a source of motivation to bring specialists of various fields together in dialogue and a creative resource for all of them. Such an encounter of dialogue “at the borders of disciplines” could be held in “base camp locations” at the same time as temporary stays of researchers and as “permanent world” to address the particular “challenge of globality”. Finally, in the last section, I will suggest to explore the extent to which transdisciplinary base camps” could constitute relevant science/society interfaces to guarantee a sustainable two-way dialogue between scientists and people ”in the face of the accelerating and invading development of technosciences” .
