Walter Benjamin and the popular music

Abstract : This essay intends to present some of the possibilities of utilizing Walter Benjamin's work in order to think the production and the reception of popular music in contemporary world. For such a task Adorno's work, as well as his interactions with Benjamin's thinking, has been an important tool, since Benjamin himself has barely wrote about music. Concepts such as Zerstreuung were analyzed. The improvised solo, the arrangement, the LP and its contemporary crises were also brought to scene in an attempt to think popular music from its own basis.
